eCar are, in my humble opinion, total dickheads

Having set up insurance through them, and made two payments, they have written confirming our request to cancel the policy - no such request was made. They also wrote advising due to non payment of premiums they are cancelling the policy, even though premiums were paid. So both letters make no sense.

They even said they are cancelling it 7 days from a 9th Sep letter meaning it ceased on 31st July? They cannot even work out a simple date...

Turns out that they are cancelling it because they think that my son's DOB is 1st Jan 1970. But that makes no sense. No way he would have selected that and it is not the first or default date on the form. Suspicious that it is unix time zero. And, if you get a quote for someone with his details and that DOB it is a fraction of the price they are charging, so clearly they did not use that DOB to set the policy up.

But WTF can you do - they are cancelling the policy. I think we'll have to sue them for consequential loses or something, or get the FSA involved.

I really do not recommend touching eCar with a barge pole.

  1. Given that you'll then have to tick the 'yes' box for "Have you ever been refused insurance" on future quote applications and that this could well affect future premiums, sue the hell out of them.

  2. Quit, though they did not "refuse" insurance, they cancelled it after accepting it. So how does one answer that I wonder. The letters even claim that my son cancelled it...

  3. I would send a SAR to their data controller asap which should provide you all the evidence you need if it ever goes to court, Although when they receive it they will probably look into it and realise its an error. Besides, It only costs £10 and they have to provide it, Which will probably cost them more than £10 anyway.

    Goodluck.

  4. 'have you ever been declined car insurace, had a policy cancelled or special circumstances imposed'

"Yes" then, other than the odd "we're cancelling it because you asked us to" element

  5. Indeed and that is "ever". So if we can confirm it was their error via courts or FSA or whatever, I can't see that they could be not liable for the increased premiums my son has for the rest of his life. Do they really want to risk that I wonder?

  6. "If A&A did car insurance, it'd probably be the best car insurance in the world"

I've never dealt with a decent insurance company in my life. All of them charge a fortune, and when you do need them to do something they will inevitably get it wrong.

ecar quoted me £423 for my policy, then asked me to send license & proofof NCD to them which I did, I had lost my NCD & sent a letter with renewal clearly stating this. They refunded me £51. I e-mailed them and said you have given me £51 back because you have discounted my NCB when I have lost my NCB by knocking a wall down claim value £945, I informed them of this a 2nd time in an e-mail. They e-mailed me back that I had not disclosed the loss of my NCB my insurance premium would be rising by £511 and they wanted it in 7-days. I have cancelled the policy losing £100,s informed the Financial Services Ombudsman, Trading Standards, my credit card company and reporting for breaching the "Supplyof Good Act 1982" and contacting "Watchdog" I ask everyone to take these measures. I also contacted "confused.com" and told them they had a fraudulent company operating under their name. EVERYONE PLEASE DO THE SAME!!!!!!
