Targeted adverts?

A few days ago I went to ledhut to buy some "bulbs".

So now, I am seeing adverts for ledhut everywhere, especially FaceBook. This speediest page has there adverts for ledhut on it. THREE!

I have to wonder what the hell is the point - I already know of ledhut, and I have actually purchased from them. I have purchased all that I need from them, and if I need more I know where to go. Wasting advertising space telling me something I know already seems a total waste of money!

What seems even more crazy is advertising the same things to me three times on the same page!

I suspect someone has sold them on the idea of targeting adverts.

No wonder people get annoyed by this :-)

  1. I visited my Girlfriend in Quebec a few months ago, and now every so often I get advertisements en francais for coach services there....

  2. That's Google's "remarketing" in action. Looks like it's gone a bit OTT on the speedtest page though! :)

  3. I see this all the time - despite knowing that sites do it and Google is collecting that sort of data from their ads etc, it's still quite creepy to actually see it in action, highlighting something I'd been looking at previously on an entirely unrelated site...

  4. Facebook has been showing me ads for Ebay items - my own Ebay items. The very same things I am trying to be rid of!

  5. Good luck with LEDhut, I bought 5 LED floods with them and despite a rated "20,000 hours" or whatever they all failed within 2 years. They do not recognise the Sale of Goods Act.

    1. Matt, if you paid with credit card, your credit card company may recognize the sale of goods act :-)

  6. I started using a new laptop at work a while ago and noticed the 'creepy' ads (related to recent searches, things I looked at on websites) coming up again. Disabling third party cookies made this go away again. This breaks some sites which import functionality (such as disqus) but a few whitelist entries for those help.

  7. LED Hut are spammers. Presumably you started receiving marketing emails from them, without your consent? They also failed to honour the Distance Selling Regulations when I requested to return some goods under those regulations, until I took them to court over it, at which point they capitulated. They then resubscribed me to their spam list. Class act.

Hot tubbing...

I have a hot tub, it came with the house over 3 years ago. Managing a hot tub is complicated, and expensive. The expensive part is the power...
