At the rate it is used work out what one more /24 is in days, or hours, or minutes of life for IPv4?

Yes, we are moving to IPv6, and of course, he and I have IPv6. But purely practically it would be silly for anyone that can afford PI not to get it while they can. The worse that can happen is we give it back to the pool of remaining IPv4 some day. It is not a "waste", but a "use", as valid as the first /8's were. if not more so.

If anyone will actually "use" their IP space it is the likes of myself and my son. In my case I am returning a /24 of PA to A&A to allocate to other users. All gets used sensibly and as per RIPE rules.RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-92189170534044823332012-07-09T19:36:06.790+01:002012-07-09T19:36:06.790+01:00This really does surprise me from you... I know yo...This really does surprise me from you... I know you're very much an IPv6 fan, but are you seriously suggesting wasting a bit of the IPv4 space on a "birthday present"?!? That seems ridiculously wasteful and silly. Geek value yes, worth it value? No. Showing a responsible attitude to IPv4 depletion (and thus your reputation...) not so much.

Going off at a slight tangent...

I know you love IPv6 and we should all be using it and moving to it asap, which is good and lovely and all. But there are some boring realities - right now almost everything is IPv4, so as it stands, it is needed. The UK ISP community is still very limited in offering IPv6 (in a sane, working way). Yes, I could move to you, but then the main reason I pay my current provider (bandwidth) is an issue. You can't provide me with the sorts of bandwidth I need at a price I can stomach. It isn't necessarily about the cheapest service, just one that makes sense.

The reality is that the providers offering the best usage allowances aren't the ones offering IPv6, so right now my choice is to forgo 6 for bandwidth. The Backup Exec Goathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16532538047698437455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-42794799370529784422012-07-06T20:01:30.901+01:002012-07-06T20:01:30.901+01:00He knows it is 50 euro a year plus making it multi...He knows it is 50 euro a year plus making it multihomed.RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-30521253489576399652012-07-06T19:53:49.827+01:002012-07-06T19:53:49.827+01:00That's a pretty hefty birthday present, Out of...That's a pretty hefty birthday present, Out of interest what's the sort of cost of a /24 PI these days? - I appreciate you might not want to explain if your son reads this post of course.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-50920058179579312952012-07-06T10:06:51.122+01:002012-07-06T10:06:51.122+01:00£15/year for the annual return, and I think a smal...£15/year for the annual return, and I think a small dormant accounts filing fee.
