We up the level if it gets full but a one-off event going over the commit is silly expensive hence we shape/police to the level. It also allows the smarter shaper that allows VoIP priority and the like.

When you have multiple LNSs you have a single rate limit over the lot, so they have to "share" the usage between themselves. This is done by per second stats broadcasts and policer adjustments to ensure overall it works the same as one big LNS with a single policer.

Does that make sense?RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-28327106822499161692012-01-02T18:07:28.215+00:002012-01-02T18:07:28.215+00:00What do you mean by "shared traffic policing&...What do you mean by "shared traffic policing"Frank Bulkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02004215342995023858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-4148543137425531442012-01-02T18:04:34.096+00:002012-01-02T18:04:34.096+00:00I have created http://aa.net.uk/kb-broadband-unfil...I have created http://aa.net.uk/kb-broadband-unfiltered.html to clarify matters.RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-70880613336793885892012-01-02T11:53:07.031+00:002012-01-02T11:53:07.031+00:00Oh, and also we don't allow you to send traffi...Oh, and also we don't allow you to send traffic that is not IPv4 or IPv6 up the line - that too is not "filtering". I thing the point is that we offer an "Internet connection" which is not filtered. The fact it is an "Internet connection" has some technical aspects that mean you cannot just send jibberish (or spoofed source packets).RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-11531541203811385052012-01-02T11:23:16.799+00:002012-01-02T11:23:16.799+00:00We provide an unfiltered connection to you allowin...We provide an unfiltered connection to you allowing you to send and receive traffic to/from the IPs assigned to you. We do not filter any traffic that is from your IPs from your line or to your IPs to you line. Conversely,w e don't send packets not destined for your IPs to you line and do not route packets not from your IPs from your line. That is unfiltered, IMHO.

It is documented on the web site and I really do not think that is any issue.RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-17097476679947502492012-01-02T11:16:18.491+00:002012-01-02T11:16:18.491+00:00Can I originate a data gram with any origin IP add...Can I originate a data gram with any origin IP address on the A&A DSL service? If so then that could be considered bad practice (I.e. you should filter origin IP address using RPF) but if so then you do filter peoples connection so you are already in breach of contract. So what will it be? Bad practice or breach of contract?

Or have you already got that nailed down somewhere? :-)

Anyway, happy new year!
