It is not surprising - every technology goes through stages like this. More and more people are able to just work at a very high level. It's the same with software development. The number of people who actually understand things dwindles. Even cars are a mystery to mechanics now, with the EMU being a black box. This is turning in to a totally new rant isn't it :-)RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-5088690760790191232010-09-18T12:33:18.274+01:002010-09-18T12:33:18.274+01:00I'm saddened by the number of people who still...I'm saddened by the number of people who still think that NAT is a security feature.Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03996533690674798085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-73585035878949272292010-09-17T17:38:58.492+01:002010-09-17T17:38:58.492+01:00I'd love to, but that would be a tad unprofess...I'd love to, but that would be a tad unprofessional as I was being a consultant.RevKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12369263214193333422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-41481291854856029232010-09-17T17:10:06.139+01:002010-09-17T17:10:06.139+01:00/me wants all the gory details !!!!/me wants all the gory details !!!!Waynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03441640851675366984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-62551480350514294202010-09-17T13:25:01.508+01:002010-09-17T13:25:01.508+01:00I think this is a "Tragedy of the Commons&quo...I think this is a "Tragedy of the Commons" thing. If everyone plays nicely, it will be better for all, but as soon as one breaks ranks and tries a grab, others will too and it all falls apart (in this case earlier than it would otherwise).
It's human nature in a situation when nobody is in overall control of a restricted resource...Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15723650792657064281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3993498847203183398.post-51732470736697355132010-09-17T12:35:53.028+01:002010-09-17T12:35:53.028+01:00The world will become a hell of NAT and mappings a...The world will become a hell of NAT and mappings and stuff not working before people actually start using IPv6. I can't help wondering if this is a deliberate strategy: there won't be addresses available tomorrow, so they allocate them today.

Will the other RIRs be tempted to join in the game? I hope so. It will be painful when the IPv4 addresses run out, but we can't put it off forever, and a shift to IPv6 will bring a lot of other benefits.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
