Things you don't do

Plug in an Ethernet cable under your desk, and ignore all the cries of "WTF just happened to the Internet" as you walk out of the office to get your lunch.

Chasing a gigabit network loop took a while, and caused certain amounts of havoc.

So, take note, don't do that [I am looking at you JamesK]...

  2. Indeed, I would agree - the previous owners of this office had structured cabling - the decorators just chopped all the cables at the ceiling. We did not re-cable, but it means we have the odd small cheap non spanning tree switch under the desks here and there. Normally that is an excellent solution, with, err, one caveat - don't loop the buggers.
