WoW IPv6

Well, Blizzard have out done themselves, managing to get IPv6 enabled on US and EU servers in time for today's World IPv6 Launch. Well done.

Shame you have to tick a tick box, but otherwise it just works.

Of course this does mean I have to test it thoroughly, for work, you understand. Have to make sure it works as well as IPv4... :-)

A trace from London where our DSL lines connect shows direct to HE over LINX and then in to Telia. I assume Blizzard are connected via them as the trace stops at firewalls there.

  1. WoW servers were (last time I looked) single homed behind Telia, which was fun when they had the peering spat with Cogent as Blizzard put a notice on the login page saying something along the lines of "Sorry if you are a cogent customer and unable to read this"

  2. Bliz have used Telia as their main carrier for as long as I can remember, so yep, that's all looking correct and good :)

  4. So, one "you have been disconnected from the server", but you cannot read much in to that as it happens anyway from time to time even on IPv4. Always the way when looking for problems.

    1. Amusingly, crashing the gateway/router here did *not* disconnect the game :-)

  5. They should add a server option to let you connect via ipv6 *only* for a specific account.
It would probaby be quite a good way to stop people breaking into accounts. At least in the short term.

Hot tubbing...

I have a hot tub, it came with the house over 3 years ago. Managing a hot tub is complicated, and expensive. The expensive part is the power...
