Man Cave: Day 0

This is the first day that I really think that the garage conversion project is actually starting - workmen have been here all day clearing out the old dry lining, and stud work, and getting it ready to start work on Tuesday.

Of course, the BT fibre runs directly through one of the old bits of stud work, which is a slight snag, but we can sort that on Tuesday. The wasps nest was old/dead, thankfully. The garage door still opened, but no runners, so left on until Tuesday. I have ripped out all of the old cabling, some of which was installed around 17 years ago. The old worktops and benches were dismantled, and a whole skip was filled today.

So, picture is boring today - looks like a garage again - and "no" to each of my kids that has said "we should make it a garage again", seeing as they all have cars.

  1. Ah yes, we have one of those BT Fibre things slap bang in the middle of the sales office wall. Sadly, I was away the day they installed that, or I'd have had them bring it up the outside wall to the first floor... bloody annoying!

    1. Yes, as it was going through loft anyway, no idea why he did not bring up outside wall all the way to the loft - would have been way neater.

    2. That's BT for you. I can't wait to do my Man Cave, been waiting nearly 2 weeks now to fix my landie up my mum's for the skip to be moved - could have had it done in an hour if it wasn't for that, and then being ill!
Surprising how much you use something until you can't use it as easily...

    1. My car lives in my garage. It's great, there's no snow or frost on it in winter, and in summer it's not boiling hot from the sun. Also the external bits of black plastic don't fade from all the years of sunlight. Plus it's more secure than parking on street (no windows in my garage). I don't know anyone else that keeps their car in the garage, but frankly I'm baffled why not for those that actually have garages.

    2. Most car nowadays are wider than the standard garage width so may physically fit although the drivers door cannot be opened enough to actually get out. Fox example, compare the original Golf Mk1 to the latest and see how bloated it is. If you have an integral garage (like mine) you cannot extend it in any way. The last car I had that fitted in my garage was a Peugeot 306.

    3. I tried to put the landie in the new garage when we moved - found I could get it in, but without wingmirrors. So I had the central pillar removed and I can now get it in, but barely in/out and work around it!
New Garage will have a central, 4-post lift and dedicated space for it.

  3. I have a beautiful wooden garaged made by not my next door neighbour it's a work of art, unfortunately my wife recently bought a fine Land Rover Disco 3 and it won't fit in the garage, too high, not even lowering it using the hydraulic feature will help enough. The rollup automatic door is the problem if anyone has any intelligent ideas please let me know.

Hot tubbing...

I have a hot tub, it came with the house over 3 years ago. Managing a hot tub is complicated, and expensive. The expensive part is the power...
