Plenty of cheap ceramic crockery seems to be quite lossy at 2.4GHz. My soup the other day was tepid but I couldn't hold the bowl for long.
ReplyDeleteDoes it have a crack or chip? If so it might have absorbed water
ReplyDeleteYeah that's the answer -water absorbtion. I use the microwave to make coffee (yeah I know) and cheap mugs work at the start, but eventually start absorbing water and become unsafe to use. Only dense porcelain mugs last. Cheap clay is very porous internally, and if there are any scratches that go through the glaze, that's it.
ReplyDeleteSome glases have metal in them. I have a mug with metallic glase on the handle. I only used it once in the microwave. Lesson learnt.
ReplyDeleteBeen there many years ago with a microwavable plate. When I opened the microwave door, the plate exploded with enough force that pieces of the plate were sticking out of my arms and legs, leaving the remainder of the plate in the vinyl floor, which had melted due to the heat of the shards!
